You know everybody wants a head of thick, luscious hair. But thick-haired ladies don’t necessarily get to have all the hairstyling fun! Just like how red lipstick can make your lips look fuller and your teeth whiter, the right hairstyle can create the illusion of fuller hair. Keep reading for our favorite shoulder-length hairstyles for fine hair!
Asymmetrical Textured Bob
An asymmetrical bob is longer on one side than the other. This makes hair look thicker and draws more attention to your gorgeous features! But the real volume booster for this mid-length hairstyle is its messy texture.
To style at home, apply a small amount of Toppik Hair Fattener Advanced Thickening Serum from roots to ends. Then, spritz hair with a salt texturizing spray. Scrunch hair and allow to air dry, or blow dry using a diffuser. Finally, use a flat iron to smooth a few pieces in the front. Then scrunch the ends again for an effortless finish.
Messy Side Braid
We love this easy hairstyle because the deep part gives you some lift at the roots. Parting your hair in a different place is one of the quickest ways to add the look of extra volume to fine hair.
Add a small amount of Toppik Hair Fattener Advanced Thickening Serum to a dry hair and brush through hair to distribute. Loosely braid your hair, then secure the braid with a hair tie. Finally, finish the look by gently pulling apart the strands of the braid. This method, called “pancaking,” makes your braid look thicker.
Wavy Lob
A long bob haircut, otherwise known as a lob, is very popular for women of all hair textures. The lob works especially well for fine hair since it’s short enough to keep hair from being weighed down by extra length. But it’s also long enough to pull into a ponytail on days when you don’t feel like styling your hair.
The most flattering way to style a long bob for fine hair is with soft waves. Spritz hair with a thermal protectant spray, then use a 1 ½” curling wand to add some bend to your strands. Leave the ends straight for a more modern finish. Then, spray hair with a light-hold hairspray to keep your hairstyle in place all day.
Romantic Chignon
This very chic (and easy-to-style) updo works as well for formal occasions as it does for everyday. And since it has plenty of texture, it makes fine hair look thicker.
Start by applying Toppik Hair Fattener Thickening Serum throughout dry hair. If your hair is naturally straight, add a few waves with the help of a curling iron or curling wand.
Next, create a low, loose ponytail and secure with a hair tie, leaving out 1-2 inches of hair framing your face. Twist the front sections towards the back and secure with a hair tie to create a second ponytail right above the first. Using strands from each of the ponytails, create two or three loose braids. Gently pull apart the strands to thicken the braids (see our “pancaking” tip above!). Wrap these braids into a bun and pin to secure.
Finish by pulling out a few face-framing tendrils from your ‘do. If you have any areas of scalp show-through, just use a few shakes of Toppik Hair Building Fibers in your root color for instant coverage.
Sleek Angled Bob
This timeless style is definitely one of our favorite mid-length hairstyles for fine hair. This haircut is longer in the front, so hair “stacks” and lies in one place. By shifting the weight of your hair towards your face, your hair actually looks thicker.
To style this look, start by washing hair with Toppik Hair Building Shampoo and Conditioner. Apply a small amount of Toppik Hair Fattener Advanced Thickening Serum to damp hair and comb through to distribute evenly. Then use a brush to blow-dry hair straight. Finish by using a small amount of anti-frizz product to tamper down any flyaways.
